Today I made it to San Jose, Costa Rica!

My view from the plane:

I got on my first flight to Guatemala City at 12:40 am this morning, and got on the second flight to San Jose at 9:35 am, landing in CR at 11:30. I was greeted by Luis, who took me as well as three other girls who will also study at Veritas University (but aren't part of my program). He dropped me off at Marjorie's house (my "mamatica") where I soon met Morghan, who is also staying here. Luis told us that being called a gringa is not an insult, neither is being called a barbie!

Lots of Marjorie's family came (her cousin, niece, great niece, and great nephew) for a barbecue that Marjorie cooked. Ella es una buena cocinera! We had grilled chicken, fried plantanes, rice with pigeon peas, and salad. Then Jess came!

Jess, Morghan, and I, and our shared room:

Jess, Morghan, and I all decided we wanted to go out and explore, once Marjorie's family left. Marjorie called a friend of hers to drive us to the local fiesta, where they were celebrating the new year! It was huge! The festival went on for blocks and blocks, and in the center was a giant arena where they were holding bull fights!

The fiesta:

After walking around for a while, we stumbled upon a band playing. They played almost the entire night! Here is a video of them:

Jess and I decided we should buy a drink, so we ordered dos mojitos for the two of us. They were delicious, and cost about 3 or 4 dollars. Then we got hungry and followed our noses to one of the stands selling churros. All three of us got one each, and as we bit into them we found out they were filled with gooey, warm caramel! Que rico!! They were, hands down, the best churros I've ever had.

The fashion in San Jose is, so far, all over the place. I couldn't help but notice the common early 2000's ish style on almost everyone, however there were the occasional outlandishly lavish ones wearing 6 inch heals and mini dresses (or one man wearing a leotard). I hope I don't stand out too much (although I know that I do!)

One more girl arrived at Marjorie's house when the three of us got back, however she had already gone to bed. We are all extremely exhausted from the long day of traveling and fiesta-ing, so it's time to rest!
