Bienvenidos a Veritas Universidad!
Today we had our orientation. We arrived at 9 am and had a short tour of the campus of Veritas. It's half inside, half outside, with three levels and two halves on either side of the road. Veritas is a private art school, so there are studios to film and sewing machines and lots of computer labs. It's a beautiful campus, but feels kind of like a maze!
Campus:

Then we had to sit through a very, very long orientation. We were in a big auditorium. First we heard about the university and the policies (can't show up to class drunk, darn), and then we learned about culture shock and what we should expect to feel. I'm not sure I will be homesick (sorry, LA and Chicago), but if I do I know I will be okay!
After that we had a pizza lunch (I was disappointed...not very Costa Rican!) and a "special surprise" - a band showed up and started playing music, and very large puppet-like costumed people appeared and started a conga line, then started to form a circle and pull people in to dance! This was what they called a "cultural event". Of course, I got pulled in! Here are some pictures:

Then, a group of us went to the mall San Pedro. It was about 5 stories tall! I bought a nice dress for dancing, and Jess bought some snacks. We will probably go back there eventually to do some actual shopping, but for now that was sufficiente.
After that, a few of us went out clubbing! We started at La Pescadito, a local bar about 10 seconds from my homestay house. Then we took a taxi to a club near La Universidad de Costa Rica. It was loud and fun! Charlie, Chris, Ryan, Jess and I all danced, even though nobody else was dancing! We looked como un grupo de gringos!! It was a blast!
