Today I had a presentation in class. We got to choose what
we wanted to present on, so of course I chose hummingbirds! I found out,
through my research, that hummingbirds are actually very antisocial creatures.
Both males and females lead strictly solo lives, except when mating. They will
physically fight each other if one gets too close. I also learned that
hummingbird feeders are actually harming hummingbirds and their environment. By
having the feeders, the birds are not doing what they are supposed to be doing,
which is pollinating flowers. Those flowers suffer if they are not pollinated.
Also, the hummingbirds’ beaks are designed to fit into certain flowers, but if
they are constantly fed by a feeder, over time those adaptations will not be
necessary and they will lose them, along with their power to pollinate certain
types of flowers.
During class I started to feel a little dizzy and shaky.
Jess and I went over to where there are hammocks and bean bag chairs under some
shade and hung out with Charlie and Chris for a good three or four hours, just
being lazy. Chris told us a lot of stories about his town in Canada, where he
is from, and Charlie was just his goofy self (see below).
We all then went home to have
dinner and then met up to go out again. It was us four, plus Ethan. We went to
a restaurant to eat some nachos (they were delicious!) and then went out to
Terra U. Here is us at the restaurant:
There were some great dancers at Terra U, including us!
Charlie and I danced:

merengue, and Jess and I danced salsa. Jess tried to dance with Ethan,
but he just goofed off! It was cute.

Dancing here is so much fun! I want to learn more about
Latin dance and be able to hold my own when the music comes on!
