First day of school!
Today we had our first class of Tropical Ecology. We have class from noon to 2:30 pm every day. It seems like it's actually going to be a pretty difficult class! There are 7 units, a midterm, a final, two presentations, and a debate. Here's our classroom, and our teacher!

Also, both weekends we are here we are going on field trips. Unfortunately, the point of the field trips are to learn, not to have fun (although they will inevitably be fun because we are indeed in Costa Rica), so we decided to come up with our own excursions! Jess and I are trying to get a group together to take a day, probably next Tuesday, to go to Jaco beach. Hopefully that all works out! I was told by Luis, our vaijero go-to person, that I am too pale (too gringa is actually what he said) and that I need to go to the beach. Okay Luis, but only because you said so! ;)
After class, a large group of us went out to a small cafe just around the corner from campus called Cafe con Que. There we all got yummy quesadillas and juice from a fruit called Guanavana. This fruit is extremely sweet and also, apparently, is an anti-carcinogen. Guanavanas are illegal in the United States, thanks to the large companies that own and sell drugs who don't want Americans to have the option of a natural, delicious, and cheap cancer preventer. Who knew! This is what it looks like:

Chris, Jess and I headed to the craft market after that. I bought a few regalos para mi familia y amigos there. It was very fun, and not too expensive!
For dinner, cooked by our lovely mamatica Marjorie, we had pork chop, rice and beans, fried plantains and a lettuce and carrot salad.
Then, we headed out for a dance class the university offers! That was fun! We learned merengue, bachata, salsa, and one more I can't remember the name of. For Jess and I, it was a little easy! But Luis, who also is apparently a very very good dancer, showed us some more complicated steps and we had a blast! Here are some pictures and a video of the warmup!

After that, my friends Charlie and Jake met up with us at Veritas and we walked to the Pescadito bar. That wasn't too exciting, so we decided to try out a new place we had heard of called Hoxton in San Pedro. Boy, was that place fun! We knew a group of people in line (Jaron, Ray, Chris, Sabrina and Deija), so luckily we did;t have to wait too long to get in. It was ladies' night! That meant I got in for free and got free drinks all night (I tried ordering one and have no idea what I ordered. I think I just got sprite!). There was a great DJ and a lot of dancing. Charlie and Jake took a taxi with me home and made sure I got home safe, thankfully. My ears were ringing all night! Here's Charlie and Jake:
